Is there yichud in a car or taxi? May we drive alone together on dates?different viewsask your rav
The authorities assess a drive alone together differently; what matters is the road, the time of day, whether the inside of the car can be seen, and whether others could get in.
A ride in a city taxi by day he does not consider yichud, but a ride at night, or on a deserted road outside the city, he does. A motor home is treated as a separate room, and tinted windows or curtains that hide the interior create an additional problem. He describes a leniency where there is a partition, when the driver would have to get out of the vehicle to reach the woman.
“riding in a car at night or outside the city in isolated areas during the day is regarded as Yichud”
He relays Rav Moshe Feinstein's strict approach to driving alone together even by day, relying on the lenient opinions only in real need. Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky permitted a night drive only with the interior light on; Rav Wosner and Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach permitted driving on an open road.
